Resilience

Cancer companion

The challenge

The challenge was immense here. To create a digital app, a medium with a visual language, while breaking the codes of a sterile medical environnment to offer users a break in their journey. A safe place where both patients and doctors can have access to the right information. So how do we help? How do we create a safe place? How do we create a link with the isolation that it may generate? How do we connect it with research?

The outcome

It was about finding the right balance on every level. By providing education, the keys to understand what is happening in their body. Without any embellished speech; but with concrete, scientific words. We believe in healing through education.
Trying to match color and a photophaphic environment so they can cope with cancer.

I was lucky to meet Celine and Matthieu and learn about their ambitious project.
It was about cancer. Yes, the "C" word. A word that we whisper as it if it's forbidden. A word that can give you instant chills.
A project that had the crazy ambition to educate to people while trying to bring research a step ahead.

A digital app to monitor symptoms and collect in a patient and doctor side.
Either a place where people can have a dedicated place where they can talk, learn, be reassured and understood.
And a revolutionnary platform to give researchers precious informations to advance research in cancer.

THE CHALLENGE

THE OUTCOME

Resilience def[ U ]

Ability to build up oneself and live despite traumatic circumstances.

We had to make an effort to make the patients feel they were in the right place, while never doubting the content quality or seriousness.
That, of course also comes from whole brading. Fonts, colors and imagery to define the identity.

Colors

We designed the identity based on three colors.

(a) First -yellow- measure yourself
(b) Second -blue- understand yourself
(c) Third -green- soothe yourself

Fonts

To support that idea,
we did some research on the typography
used in well-known academic
institutions to make a connection.
To make them feel that they
are safe, in good hands.

Imagery

Medical solutions often have a pop of color and studio pictures using actors.
We needed to be clearer here, more authentic.
We wanted to show pictures authentically, without retouches, showing real scars.

Illustration

Illustration was also a big topic.
How do we manage to tell a story to illustrate symptoms?
We drew a character with no evident
shape so everyone could connect with it and no one would feel excluded.

Yellow, measure.

As a well known color for
it's positive connotation, we used the
sunny color for the personnal space of the app,
somewhere you can place your symptoms
and analyze their evolution.

It was very important that this space
stay as positive and
concrete as possible.

Blue, learn.

Blue is the color often used
as a community color.
It is used on social networks,
it stays in the mind as a peaceful color,
somewhere where we can connect to others.
We used it here for the library.
The place where we can choose the books
you need to learn and dive deep into
the articles written by scientists and doctors.

Green, practice.

Green is often used as a
color to represent the environment.
Once you have measured
your symptoms and understood
them, you can find a way to
manage them through
the green area.
